The Libby Ross Foundation Newsletter
Spring 2007

Since the beginning of 2007, The Libby Ross Foundation has made significant progress in our efforts in the fight against breast cancer. We have continued to expand The Libby Ross Foundation Breast Cancer Yoga Program and have reached more than 150 new breast cancer patients with our Pink Ribbon Kits so far this year.

We would like to invite all of our supporters and friends to help make 2007 our most successful year to date, by sponsoring one of our upcoming events or donating to the Foundation.

In 2006, the Foundation raised a quarter of a million dollars towards support of survivors, research for a cure and prevention of breast cancer. We have set a goal of raising a half of a million dollars in 2007, and we need your help to make this dream a reality.

Thanks to our generous contributors, the Foundation has developed creative new ways for individuals and companies to sponsor the Foundation, our support programs and fundraising events. If you or anyone you know might be interested in helping us reach more breast cancer patients, click here to send us an email for more information.

The Foundation would like to thank you for attending our past events and we look forward to seeing you at our Spring Cocktail Party and Annual Gala. Please see more information on both events on the right-hand side of this newsletter.

With Mother's Day quickly approaching, we ask you to give generously with a special contribution in honor of all of the women, especially the mothers, in your life. Your donation is fully tax deductible and will benefit breast cancer patients and survivors, and will help us in our efforts to fight breast cancer and prevent future generations of mothers from facing this disease.

To make a donation, please click here to be directed to our secure donation site.

If you are looking for a special way to give back, consider some of the following options as possible gifts this year. Gifts of support are the best way to show that you care.

Breast cancer affects one in every seven women... Together we can change the odds.

Give a Gift that Lasts All Year

Make a difference in the life of a breast cancer survivor. It costs the Foundation approximately $500 to sponsor each survivor who takes part in our Yoga Retreats. In honor of the special mothers in your life, give the gift of a once in a lifetime experience by sponsoring a survivor.

Give as little or as much as you like, and your funds will go directly towards providing a breast cancer survivor with the opportunity to join the Foundation on an incredible retreat.

The difference that the Foundation is making is made evident by the words of several women who have taken part in our Yoga Retreats:

The best part of the retreat was the opportunity to be with other women who understand the devastation and rebirth of breast cancer. Through this experience, I have begun to make peace with my cancer.
    - Joanne P.

It is an experience that will be kept forever in my memory. I have never been treated so well, met such wonderful, brave, funny women. I have never laughed so much about breast cancer. I left feeling less like an "oddball" and more like others. I left feeling like sharing my disease rather than hiding it from others.
    - Becky B.

The entire retreat was amazing! But the love, compassion and caring that was shown by all of the people there - administrative and participant was overwhelming! I have made a lot of new 'forever friends', learned that a lot of the issues that I face are very common. The retreat was a First Class event and the opportunity of a lifetime. It has permanently changed my life and I cherish every second that I spent there.
    - Beverly S.

Send a Card that Says you Really Care

Throughout the course of our lives, we are touched by the kindness and thoughtfulness of others in a variety of ways.

We have developed The Libby Ross Foundation Tribute Program to provide you with a way of saying "Happy Mother's Day", "Thank You", "Congratulations" or "Sorry for Your Loss" while donating to the fight against breast cancer.

We have created a series of beautiful cards that can be sent out on your behalf when you make a donation to The Libby Ross Foundation.

    We Need Your Help

In order to provide supplies for The Yoga Program and The LRF Pink Ribbon Kit Program, the Foundation needs to identify possible donors to help facilitate and grow these areas of the organization. In addition to obtaining much needed financial support, we also have a need for non-monetary donations.

The goal of The Yoga Program is to promote healing and a sense of well being for breast cancer survivors. The program provides support for women who have had or are undergoing surgery, radiation or chemotherapy for breast cancer.

The Pink Ribbon Kit provides gift bags, distributed by trained survivor volunteers, to women newly diagnosed with breast cancer. The bags contain comfort items and self-help tools women with cancer may find helpful during treatment, as well as valuable information on available resources, medical and emotional issues.

The Foundation would welcome any corporate or individual donations that could help us supply items for these truly amazing programs.

If you or anyone you know might be interested in making a donation to The Libby Ross Foundation, please contact us.

Prevention and the Search for a Cure

The Foundation's early detection efforts are currently focused on funding a mammogram screening room at the South Carolina Comprehensive Breast Center through a multi-year grant. In addition, we believe our events serve to educate the community on breast cancer as we distribute self-exam and other information to all attendees.

The Libby Ross Foundation makes a donation annually to research. The Foundation funds research earmarked to specific projects such as vaccines to prevent the disease and research of genetic causes of breast cancer.

    Yoga Retreats

Since 2004, over 120 women have joined The Libby Ross Foundation at a Yoga Retreat for Survivors of Breast Cancer and Other Women's Cancers in various locations throughout the United States.

Our May Retreat, scheduled for May 28th - 30th at the Omega Institute in New York, filled up in 24 hours, and we are delighted to announce plans for a retreat later on this year on the West coast.
